Position Type: Casual (up to 19 hours/week)

Start Date: As soon as possible
Wage: $19.36/hour
Typical Shifts: Monday/Wednesday/Saturday: 8:45am–11:30am or 9:00am–11:45am

About the Role

The Children and Youth Recreational Program Staff team delivers high-quality programs and services to YMCA members and participants as part of the Health, Fitness, and Aquatics team. Staff ensure a safe, positive environment while providing fun and engaging recreational programming for families and children ages 0–12. Programs may include PlayCare (childminding), family activities, active games, creative programs, sports, and Y Move physical literacy activities. All staff receive an individual YMCA-YWCA membership.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to members, volunteers, and staff
  • Set up and take down program and activity equipment
  • Monitor equipment safety; report or remove damaged items
  • Plan and implement daily lesson plans, progress reports, and evaluations
  • Maintain accurate participant records and progress sheets
  • Support cleaning and maintenance duties as needed
  • Follow YMCA-YWCA policies and safety standards, including Child Safeguarding and The Y Way
  • Build positive, professional relationships with parents, members, and participants
  • Contribute to the overall operations of the Health, Fitness, and Aquatic Centre by supporting additional duties as required

Qualifications

  • Experience leading activities for children ages 0–12
  • Education or experience in Physical Literacy (asset)
  • Reliable, dependable, and able to communicate effectively with children
  • Ability to develop and deliver age-appropriate programming
  • Strong communication with parents
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (required before start date)
